Exhibition Statement.

Botanical gardens have always been captivating to me, and I admire the importance of preserving nature. Similarly, I admire the ability of depicting personal memories and mementos through still life paintings. Using nature’s beauty and oddity as an inspiration, my work brings a surreal and whimsical perspective to still life’s.

For my body of work, I have created a series of acrylic paintings that reflect my visionary reality of nature through imagination and creativity. I believe in the importance of immersing oneself in nature for the benefit of creating a peaceful state of mind. Life can often be busy and overwhelming that sometimes we forget to recenter ourselves. The florals and plants depicted throughout my work, symbolically reflect the feeling of tranquility that is associated with nature. Inspired by cabinets of curiosities from the early Renaissance, I have rendered onto the canvas my own imaginative display of trinkets and plants. By incorporating a collection of vases and plants I am sharing my own personal interests and what I find to be unique. Tillandsias, otherwise known as air plants, have always been a favorite of mine due to their uniquely shaped leaves and their resilience to thrive in various environments. Through this body of work, I strive to uncover the whimsical and surreal essence of nature, inviting viewers to seek beauty in the mundane and look closely at the world around them.
